New York Fashion Week, September 2022

Written by:

New York Fashion Week September 2022 is fastly approaching. Events are currently scheduled to last from Friday, September 9th, until Wednesday, September 14th. However, it is unclear whether or not the show will go on, seeing as New York City and the United States government have officially declared a state of emergency due to Monkeypox. We’re now in a double pandemic, and New York City is a hot spot. The responsible thing to do would be to cancel. But of course, this is America. I need not to further elaborate. So let’s prep for New York Fashion Week, just in case.

We have more than a few Black Femme Fashion News favorites slated to display their fashion design acumen! Let’s get into it.

Fe Noel

Fe Noel

Fe Noel is a resort and womenswear favorite that can seemingly do no wrong. The brand is entering New York Fashion Week as a CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Finalist and a new entrant into the swimwear sphere. Founder and lead creative Felisha “Fe” Noel pours her authenticity, Caribbean culture, and love for prints into her designs. I expect effortlessly, sensual slays to grace Fe Noel’s runway.

Black Boy Knits

Jacques Agbobly of Black Boy Knits is going from becoming a CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Finalist to becoming a designer for Converse and hand-sewing their first ever show design with the brand. Now, they are racing to their Brooklyn studio to prepare for New York Fashion Week. I genuinely believe Jacques is a vital part of the next evolution of knitwear, and this showing at New York Fashion Week will wake even more people up!

No Sesso

Pia Rudolph

No Sesso is coming off of their stunning collaboration with Levi’s and their CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Finalist win to make a statement at New York Fashion Week. I’ve already expressed my love for their Ghetto Gold, No Money Old Money New Money Couture Collection, but let me repeat it here on the website. I live for this collection! No Sesso plays with garment construction and the display of Black grandeur. Be prepared to hear high praises for No Sesso coming out of New York Fashion Week.

Bed on Water

Bed on Water
Made NYC

Bed on Water is an interdisciplinary art house producing apparel, accessories, objects, and art media. Bed on Water made a vivid splash with their disruptive designs at the Made Class of 2022 Runway show this past June. The brand will surely remind fashion lovers and laypeople alike that the runway is for art.

Theophilio

Theophilio
Edvin Thompson

Theophilio brings Caribbean flavor with New York City grit. This brand’s use of mesh and the colors gold, green, and red–denoting founder and lead designer Edvin Thompson’s Jamaican heritage–makes them highly recognizable. Prominently featured on the cover of the first-ever edition of Black Fashion Fair Magazine, a 2021 Vogue/CFDA Fashion Fund Finalist, and winner of the CFDA Emerging Designer of the Year in 2021, Edvin Thompson and Theophilio are going to be a brand to watch! I expect every piece in this show to be wearable straight off the runway.

Tia Adeola

Tia Adeola

I’ve sung the praises of Teni “Tia” Adeola a multitude of times on my social media platforms. This young designer knows how to execute beautifully. Tia doesn’t lack in design, presentation, or quality. There’s an enriched air to Tia Adeola’s pieces, which is expected as she draws inspiration from her art history background and passion for the Renaissance period. No matter what she brings to New York Fashion Week, it is guaranteed to be opulent.

Sukeina

Sukeina
Omar Salam

Sukeina is yet another CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Finalist! Founder and lead designer Omar Salam is unafraid to create intriguing silhouettes with explosions of color. Sukeina is said to be culturally rooted in the cosmologies of Africa, the aesthetics of Europe, and the reinvention of America, and these influences are constantly on display. Fully expect Sukeina to shine their “bright light” on New York Fashion Week.

Victor Glemaud

New York Fashion Week

To me, Victor Glemaud is the wild card out of this group of designers. The Haitian American fashion designer has most recently expanded into home decor, and he made a fabulous appearance on the Met Gala red carpet. His designs that are available to shop at FarFetch are perfect for the pastel lover who wants to look airy and cute without compromising function. Because of this highly wearable approach to design, I’m interested in seeing what Victor Glemaud brings to New York Fashion Week!
