Black Women + Crochet

Written by:

Just throwing this idea around, but I want to look deeper into Black women using crochet as a creative outlet and meditative practice and how that, in turn, has led to the boom in Black woman-owned crochet businesses.

I mean, the sheer amount of them that have popped up since the 2020 quarantine is astounding. Admittedly, knitwear did see a boom around the same time. I am not exactly sure if it was an independent happening or a direct result of people searching for hobbies and crochet being among the most accessible.

Knitwear has some serious range, and Black women are having fun pushing the boundaries of their creativity all while supporting themselves with their craft. And I think a lot of people underestimate how time-consuming crocheting is. All those hours sitting with oneself? I sincerely hope crochet designers are of a sounder mind than me.

All this to say, expect interviews with crochet designers to hit the blog soon.
