ChloexHalle: Y’all Hate to See Sisterhood

Written by:

And I’m back with more commentary on Black women in music! Every industry puts Black women through the wringer, but no other sector does it so publicly, regularly, and with as much conviction as the music industry. Today we’re talking about ChloexHalle and people’s obsession with tearing them apart.

ChloexHalle, the Dynamic Duo

CholexHalle Bailey are a young, multitalented, sister R&B duo from Georgia. The sisters are beacons of positivity and love, amazing loc inspiration, and fashion-forward. The protégés of Beyoncé are inexplicably vocally gifted duo blew up during quarantine with their breathtaking live performances from their backyard and the release of their third studio album, Ungodly Hour. I believe CholexHalle got snubbed at the 2021 Grammy’s because nobody was topping Ungodly Hour, but I digress.

When I say Chloe and Halle are multitalented I ain’t playing! The sisters have bags in multiple places:

  • Halle is our Ariel for Disney’s live-action The Little Mermaid.
  • Chloe just released her debut single “Have Mercy,” which is her break into pop music.
  • Both sisters star in Freeform’s Grown-ish.
  • Both sisters have songwriting and production credits on their music.

Tearing Them Apart

The sisters love each other full stop. They love creating and performing together.

Now, Chloe and Halle have voiced interests in different entertainment avenues. as time goes on; Halle wants to focus more on acting and jazz music while Chloe is gearing up to be our next pop girl.

These interests were expressed without any malice, with complete respect to their separate passions, and mutual excitement for one another.

But, some people in the Twitter void and the mud pits of Instagram comments have been trying to tear the sisters apart in the name of “pushing” the other. I won’t even share the nasty comments because they don’t deserve space on this blog, but sadly they do exist. They all insist that in order to become the next big megastar and reach their full potential, they have to turn their back on their blood sister. Of course, ChloexHalle can split in a non-confrontational way, people’s paths can naturally diverge. But what that’s not the energy that these people are giving. They speak of one sister as being a nuisance, a ball-and-chain for the other and it’s so sad.

Chloe and Halle don’t view one another like that in the slightest. So why pit the sisters against each other?

Constant Competition

Women do not need to constantly battle one another, not everything is a competition. And believe it or not, not everything is about “winning.”

Chloe and Halle have a genuine relationship, a strong and positive sibling bond, and yet so many don’t want them to cherish and nurture it. So many are literally praying for the day it’s sacrificed. Why is that?

Why must women be cutthroat to win but with men it’s “we breaking bread till we make it to the top?” The discussion for why when are consistently pinned against one another is layered. The ripple effects of the patriarchy are definitely felt. If we’re busy bickering and leaving one another behind how much can we accomplish as a collective?

DON’T TAKE THIS OUT OF CONTEXT NOW, SOME PEOPLE DO NEED TO GET LEFT BEHIND. Not all of y’all are gang, not all of y’all can get on the midnight train to Georgia with us. I’m sorry but if you not good peoples, oh well.

The mindset is so deeply rooted that it might seem far-fetched until you watch it play out enough and truly reflect on it. All I’m saying is, the principle of divide and conquer, and who it benefits, cannot be ignored here.
