About Me

Hey y’all, I’m Chanise! I am a journalist who runs the Black Femme Fashion blog and YouTube channel as passion projects. My goal is to actively archive Black American Fashion while researching its past. What I provide is a curated experience with personal flair and commentary. Part of my mission is also to democratize fashion by amplifying the voices and creative works of those not living in one of the fashion capitals of the world.

Now that I have completed my BA in English (with a course work focus in journalism, digital media, and African American literature), I am refocusing on this here blog! I will spend the next year applying to graduate schools and looking to break into the GLAM space. GLAM is an acronym galleries, libraries, archives, and museums. I am hoping to bring my commitment to equity, the arts, and cultural exchange to these instutitions as an archivist and curator.

More about little ol’ me, I am from Springfield, MA the birthplace of basketball. I am the sole granddaughter of a banana puddin’ making, seam ripping, South Carolinan grandmother. On my paternal side I have roots in the Caribbean country of Barbados. I am a lover African Diasporic folklore, an R&B enthusiast, doll collector, and a Black feminist. With the works of Toni Morrison and Zora Neale Hurston informing my life, my daily work is grounded in breathing life into the varied nature of the human experience and partaking in joy and laughter whenever and wherever possible.
